Kamran Mir Hazar

Kamran Mir Hazar is a poet, journalist, and human rights activist who has spent over two decades documenting the challenges and resilience of the Hazara people. As the founder of Kabul Press and Refugee Face, he established independent platforms for reporting on censorship and human rights, work that was recognized with the Hellman/Hammett grant from Human Rights Watch. His literary work includes his own poetry collections, such as Stream of Deer, and the coordination of the international anthology Poems for the Hazara, which brought together 125 poets from 68 countries to speak on the systemic persecution of his community.

In recent years, his work has expanded into the technological needs of stateless populations and the preservation of cultural identity. Drawing on his studies in Management Information Systems at the University of South-Eastern Norway, he initiated the Digital Hazaristan project to explore the possibilities of digital society and sovereignty for the Hazara. This effort to build a cohesive national identity is also reflected in his design of the Flag of Hazaristan. A member of the Norwegian Writers’ Center, Mir Hazar continues to contribute to global literary festivals and human rights dialogues, focusing on the intersection of media freedom and the protection of marginalized cultures.
